2 people hurt in East Elmhurst fire

EAST ELMHURST, Queens (WABC) -- Two people were hurt in a fire in East Elmhurst, Queens early Thursday morning.

The fire broke out inside the 3-story apartment building on 96th Street between Astoria Boulevard and 30th Avenue sometime around 6 a.m.

The fire was burning not far from LaGuardia Airport.

Firefighters were spotted by NewsCopter 7 operating on the roof. The flames appeared to be knocked down.

The two people hurt suffered minor injuries and are expected to recover.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
