Police search for suspects after 2 shot, another grazed near a Bronx church

FORDHAM, The Bronx (WABC) -- Police are searching for two suspects in a shooting outside a Bronx church Friday night.

Two people were shot and another person was grazed by a bullet just before 9 p.m. at 25-40 Marion Ave. and East Fordham Road just as families were leaving a block party nearby.

A 17-year-old boy was shot in the thigh and ankle, and a 20-year-old man was shot in the right knee. They were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition.

A 28-year-old man was also grazed on the back of his head and was treated at the scene.

They say the men used mopeds to flee the scene on Marion Avenue. One male suspect was dressed in black and the other was dressed in gray.

People nearby who heard the shots thought it was pre-Labor Day celebrations, but Alex Ali who was closing up his shop at the time knew it was serious.

"People started running and I closed and left," said Ali.

The shooting comes a day after Mayor Adams said he was deploying 1,000 additional police officers into the borough to stem the wave of gun violence.

More police is a move that some community members say they support.

"I'd rather the cops than Trump talking about the military," said Gail Scott.

According to Carla Bryant, the neighborhood needs more things that are 'community healthy for the kids.'

That is why one day after the block party, Grindl Bose is back out hosting a back-to-school event, giving out supplies she paid for out of her own pocket.

"A lot of families don't have. We're not giving a lot, but we're giving what we can," she said.

It is all about uplifting a community while trying to root out the violence.

No arrests have been made in Friday's shooting.

The investigation is ongoing.
