
HEMPSTEAD (WABC) -- Three suspected car thieves are under arrest and facing charges on Long Island.
Police say the trio was caught after they crashed the stolen Audi in Hempstead early Sunday.
Jermaine Powell, Delroy Carter and Keyth Jeffers are being held on bond.
Hempstead police say they tried to stop the men after spotting them in the vehicle.
Driver Carter allegedly tried to flee the scene, but he lost control and crashed a short time later.
Jeffers also faces weapons charges after police say he had a loaded .09-mm gun.
A Hempstead officer was injured while responding to the scene when his vehicle struck a parked car. He was treated and released from a hospital.
Carter also was treated and released for minor injuries.
