MIDTOWN (WABC) -- A man has been arrested after an off-duty security guard was shot multiple times amid a dispute in Midtown, Manhattan, last week.

31-year-old Shaqueal Parker has been charged with attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

Parker was arrested Tuesday at his girlfriend's home, was arraigned Wednesday and is being held on $375,000 bail. Prosecutors said they asked for no bail.

The shooting was a result of an ongoing dispute between Parker and the 49-year-old security guard at the supportive housing residence where Parker was banned, police said.

Parker reportedly approached him at East 28th Street and Madison Avenue, spoke to him briefly, and took out a gun and shot the victim multiple times in the abdomen, officials said.

The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds and one of the gunshots pierced his spine. He was taken to the hospital and is said to be stable.

The victim is described by investigators as a security guard at the Prince George, a single-room occupancy hotel two doors down from the crime scene, which is now supportive housing for people transitioning from homeless shelters and the streets.

Parker was restricted as a guest at the The Prince George last June, and is no longer allowed to visit the building for breaking the rules.

As a film crew packed up after a long day of work on a TV drama, they were still absorbing the real-life violence that practically took place on their set, as many of them were taking lunch breaks.

"I heard the shots, and then I saw the guy fall to the ground. And then I saw the, I guess the assailant take off running and turned the corner, and the guy started screaming and everybody ran over and tried to help him," said a witness who was with the film crew.

The non-profit that manages the Prince George says it's cooperating with the NYPD's investigation.

One neighbor described the 49-year-old security guard as well liked, and someone who was good at de-escalating a tense situation.
