Magic mushrooms could become legal in New Jersey if some lawmakers get their way.
The Assembly's democratic-led health committee advanced a bill to legalize the drug.
It's called psilocybin, and adults over 21 would have access to the drug for mental health treatment.
While hallucinogenic mushrooms are banned under federal law, some states and cities have legalized the psychedelic.
And a drugmaker is seeking FDA approval of a synthetic version, expected late next year or early 2027.
The bill now goes to the Assembly's appropriations committee for consideration.
