NEW YORK, NY (WABC) -- The cold weather has us all dreaming of a warm getaway. But are you better off booking a trip online or using a travel agent?
For example, if you're headed for a quick trip to somewhere like Las Vegas, where it's 77 degrees, the answer may be different than if you're headed somewhere exotic like Thailand, where it's sunny and 91. There are many pros and cons on how best to book your travel.
If you need to book a flight late at night, it's easier to get on the computer and do it yourself rather than wait for travel agents to open the next morning.
But Paul Brady, of Conde Naste Traveler, says quicker isn't always better.
"If it's your first time in India, first time on safari, you're doing a complicated trip to Asia, those are trips where you need the support and expertise of a travel agent," he said.
While the percentage of people booking trips themselves continues to outpace other methods, experts reveal the margin is getting narrower each year.
Travel agents collect information from travelers, getting feedback and familiarizing themselves with the ins and outs of the location. Especially when it comes to perks.
A travel agent can put you in touch with the chief concierge, arrange a welcome drink or exclusive check in, and set up spas credits and preferred dining.
"It's the millennials that want that extra care," travel expert Emily Kaufman said. "While they're seasoned when it comes to technology, they're not experienced travelers."
More and more, travelers who wants special care are reaching out to a travel agent rather than booking the getaway themselves.
Now to the travel websites. Experts say don't rule them out, just pay attention to the fine print of the offers on their site. Some are simply middle men, and if there's a problem with something like your hotel, you could be on your own.
Also, most agents do not charge a fee to the passenger, so it won't cost you extra to use one.
The bottom line is sit back, relax and remember, this is suppose to be a vacation.
