Last call on Broadway: These award-winning shows are taking their final bows
MANHATTAN (WABC) -- There's something beautiful and bittersweet about Broadway as most shows are only here for a little while. For some, a while ends this summer.
In Joe Turner's "Come and Gone," Taraji P. Henson and Cedric the Entertainer have been bringing August Wilson's words to life. They take their final bows on July 26.
Then there's the show that turned the Broadhurst Theatre into a ballroom. "Cats: The Jellicle Ball," will take its final strut down the runway on Aug. 8 after winning three Tony Awards.
And then there's "Ragtime" - this season's best revival. It's a sweeping story of three American families colliding at the dawn of the century. It's got a score that soars and stars that took home Tony Awards this year. Joshua Henry and Casey Levy won best leading actor and actress in a musical. The final performance is set for Aug. 16.
Finally, for seven years, the Al Hirschfeld Theater has been drenched in red, home to Moulin Rouge. The musical. Baz Luhrmann's dazzling film reborn on stage as a nonstop party, mashed up more than 70s pop hits. It won 10 Tony Awards in 2021, including best new musical, and became the highest grossing show in that theater's 100-year history.
After nearly 2,300 performances, the curtain will fall one last time on Aug. 30.
