Man dies after being shoved down subway staircase in Chelsea; police searching for suspect

Police believe the violent attack was random and unprovoked

CHELSEA, Manhattan (WABC) -- A 76-year-old man died after he was pushed down a subway staircase in Chelsea on Thursday.

Police say a suspect came up behind the victim, Ross Falzone, and pushed him down the 18thStreet station stairs just after 9:30 pm.

First responding officers found the Falzone unconscious and unresponsive with injuries to his head.

He was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say the shoving appeared to be unprovoked. The death is being investigated a homicide.

The suspect was described as a man in his 20s or 30s, wearing a black shirt, black shorts and a red and black fanny pack.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
