Woman stabbed in unprovoked attack at subway station in Chelsea; no arrests

CHELSEA, Manhattan (WABC) -- Police are investigating after a woman was stabbed inside a subway station in Manhattan on Tuesday.

Officers responded to the Eighth Avenue and West 23rd Street station in Chelsea at 6:30 p.m., where they found a 25-year-old woman stabbed on the left side of her back.

Police say the victim was walking into the station, down the stairs, when she was approached by a male who stabbed her.

She was taken to Bellevue Hospital where she's expected to recover.

The suspect, a man, was last seen fleeing from the station in a white shirt and blue pants.

The stabbing is being investigated as an unprovoked attack, according to police sources.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
