KEY WEST, FLORIDA (WABC) -- Coast Guard cameras caught the moment a man was found on a deserted island after being stranded for nearly a week.
That man is safe in Florida after being rescued. Thirty-nine year-old Larry Sutterfield waved his arms to get the attention of a coast guard pilot during a routine patrol Monday night.
Sutterfield was on an uninhabited island in the Bahamas, about 90-miles away from Florida. He says his dinghy disabled six days before and left him drifting out to sea.
The Coast Guard dropped some supplies to Sutterfield before returning with a boat to rescue him. There was no missing person report filed and the Coast Guard was just in the right place at the right time when he was found.
