Countdown to the Starting Line

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Join ABC 7 New York on Saturday, November 1, for our annual half-hour special, "Countdown to the Starting Line," hosted by Eyewitness News Anchors Liz Cho and David Novarro.

The pre-marathon special will air following Eyewitness News at 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 1 on WABC-TV Channel 7 and wherever you stream ABC 7 New York.

Liz and David have pre-race highlights and a preview of the excitement leading up to this NYC event, where thousands of runners from all over the world converge on the Big Apple. It's been called "New York's biggest block party."

Joining Liz and David will be Eyewitness News Meteorologist Brittany Bell with a look at the iconic 5-borough course. Eyewitness News Sports Anchor Ryan Field has reports on which top runners to look for, and Sports Anchor Sam Ryan will have an update on the exciting Wheelchair Division this year.

The program features the inspiring story of an autistic man who was nonverbal until the age of six and then went on to be the first in his family to graduate from a university and is now running the marathon to show that anything is possible.

Also highlighted is a Queens woman who is using her own experience with food insecurity to help others. She used to stand in line for food donations, and now she's running her fifth TCS New York City Marathon to help end hunger in her community, raising tens of thousands of dollars for "Team City Harvest."

Viewers will hear from Good Morning America Chief Meteorologist Ginger Zee and ABC News Correspondent Will Reeve about running on the GMA50 Relay Team to celebrate 50 Years of Good Morning America. Show cohost Liz Cho reveals she's also on the relay team, along with ABC 7 Reporters Nina Pineda and Chanteé Lans and ABC 7 Meteorologist Dani Beckstrom.

And New York Road Runners CEO Rob Simmelkjaer is interviewed about the true impact of the marathon on the city of New York, which extends far beyond the hundreds of millions of dollars the race brings into the city.

Plus, we check in on the excitement of bib pickup - and the inspiring stories behind the everyday runners about to hit the course.

It's an exclusive look at what you need to know before runners take their mark at the TCS New York City Marathon!

A re-broadcast of "Countdown to the Starting Line" will air on Sunday, November 2 at 5:30 a.m.
