FDNY announces plans to commemorate 25th anniversary of 9/11

NEW YORK (WABC) -- On Tuesday, the commissioner of the FDNY announced the department's plans to commemorate next year's 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

The yearlong commemoration will include plans to honor the 343 FDNY members who were killed on 9/11 at the FerryHawks Stadium on Staten Island.

It will also honor the more than 400 members who have died from World Trade Center-related illnesses since the attacks.

"As we plan these events, we've tried to be thoughtful and respectful and carry the honor and tradition of the FDNY into everything we do," Commissioner Robert Tucker said. "Because we want to show the world and the FDNY families that when we do this and when we say things, like we will never forget, we truly mean it."

Some of the plans also include the reveal of a new 9/11 emblem and department-produced film about that day.
