FDNY firefighters resuscitate stillborn baby

BUSHWICK, Brooklyn (WABC) -- A group of New York's Bravest jumped into action to help save a newborn baby's life in Brooklyn last weekend.

Members of Engine 277 in Bushwick were called to help a woman in active labor last Saturday.

They raced to her apartment and they saw they would have to deliver the baby.

Firefighters Jeffrey Jovin and Joseph Lopez leaned into their EMS training for what happened next.

"I noticed that it was a stillborn," Jovin said. "It wasn't breathing, it was blue in color, and I immediately started taking charge."

Jovin said he and a paramedic continued CPR in the ambulance and the baby finally "pinked up" at the hospital.

They haven't seen the family since, but the FDNY said the mom and her baby boy are healthy and grateful.
