HICKSVILLE, New York (WABC) -- Two young women, one a volunteer firefighter, from Levittown were killed late Friday night in a violent crash in Hicksville.
It happened around 11:30 p.m. on Old Country Road.
Police said a 23-year-old man driving a 2026 white BMW lost control near Sterling Place.
The car drifted into oncoming traffic, hit a tree, and then slammed into a building.
The two passengers in the BMW, 19-year-old Alexa Duryea and 19-year-old Lindsey Parke, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver survived and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Detectives say the investigation into the crash is still underway, and Nassau County police report that there are no updates at this time.
The loss has hit the Levittown community especially hard.
Parke was a firefighter and EMT with Ladder Company 6, where she was known for her kindness, her energy, and even the baked treats she would bring in for her fellow members.
In a tribute, the company said her "smile, laugh, and willingness to help anyone will be forever missed," calling her a talented and passionate young woman taken far too soon.
A grief-stricken father of the 19-year-old firefighter is speaking out as he prepares to say a final goodbye to his daughter.
"The person she was hanging out with, wasn't so good. These laws as far as car racing and everything else, these young adults are buying these cars and they're suping them up to where they're like rocketships. They're killing families, killing kids and everything else, it's sad. It's sad," her father, Edward Parke said.
Parke's funeral is being held Wednesday at Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Homes in Levittown, with visiting hours from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., and a service scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
A GoFundMe created in her honor has raised thousands to support her family.
Detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to come forward as the investigation continues.
