Glenn Powell on 'The Running Man': 'It's what I've always dreamed about'

NEW YORK (WABC) -- It's back to the big screen for Glenn Powell.

This time he's running for his life in a bold and entertaining new adaptation of Stephen King's 1982 novel, "The Running Man."

The film asks uncomfortable questions like, what are we willing to watch, to ignore, and how far will a society go for the sake of entertainment?

Powell is taking on the role once played by Arnold Schwarzenegger.

"Getting 'The Expendables 3,' you know, over a decade ago put me in the company of some of the greatest action stars of all time. I got to, obviously, be a part of 'Top Gun: Maverick' cast and amazing ensemble and get to learn from some of the best filmmakers and actors around," Powell said.

He compared his experience in movies so far to going to film school.

"And, you know, with each subsequent, you know, movie, this has been a time in my life where I've really gotten to do film school. You know, I've gotten to learn from Edgar Wright and Richard Linklater, Lee Isaac Chung, you know, JJ Abrams. It's like I'm really getting to to do what I've always wanted to do as a fan of movies," Powell said. "This is, what I've always dreamed about. So for a curious person, this is this is as good as it gets."

As for this movie, it takes place in a suppressed society in the near future. A not-so-ordinary guy needs money to buy medicine for his sick child.

"So he signs up for an unwinnable game show. A game show that no one has
ever survived called 'The Running Man,' in which they release someone out into the real world where everyone in the entire world is hunting one guy for 30 days. Sort of global game of hide and seek where, where the stakes are life and death," Powell said.

You can watch "The Running Man" in theaters starting Friday, November 14.
