LOS ANGELES -- He may be an international superstar, but that didn't stop security at Los Angeles International Airport from giving Justin Bieber a second look.

The 20-year-old Canadian was returning to the United States on a flight from Tokyo Thursday when he was put through secondary questioning by Customs agents.

Bieber's lawyer says his client is often put through secondary questioning.

A U.S. law enforcement official says Bieber was eventually allowed into the country.

It's not uncommon for customs and immigration officials to question non-citizens who arrive in the US and have open legal proceedings. Bieber was also briefly detained in February when his private jet arrived in to New Jersey for Super Bowl festivities.

Bieber has recently had problems with the law in Florida, California and Tortonto.

Earlier this week, Bieber apologized for tweeting an homage to the Yasukuni Shrine while he was in Japan.

"While in Japan I asked my driver to pull over for which I saw a beautiful shrine," he explained via Instagram. "I was mislead to think the shrines were only a place of prayer. To anyone I have offended I am extremely sorry. I love you China and I love you Japan."
