HEMPSTEAD (WABC) -- A Long Island high school is trying to get singer Nicki Minaj after things didn't work out at her old school in New York City.

The President of the Hempstead Board of Education has sent a letter to Minaj asking her to perform.

Last week, Minaj tweeted that La Guardia High School for Performing Arts, which she attended, didn't want her to speak to students. The education department said the principal was concerned a TV camera crew coming with Minaj would be disruptive.
