BELMAR, New Jersey (WABC) -- A man was arrested for allegedly punching a 70-year-old bicyclist in the face during a road rage incident in Belmar, New Jersey.
It happened last Friday afternoon near 12th and D Street.
Authorities say the incident stemmed from an encounter the two men had a few blocks away and escalated from there.
Police say Anthony Alvear of Belmar pulled his dark blue Kia SUV in front of a pair of bicyclists.

They allege he got out of his vehicle, shouted at the victim and hit him in the face while the victim's wife was watching.
Officers say the man who was punched suffered injuries to his jaw that were so bad they required surgery. He was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment of his broken jaw.
Alvear was later arrested at his home and charged with second-degree aggravated assault and also issued a local summons for a noise violation.
