THE BRONX, New York (WABC) -- Eight people were rushed to the hospital following a crash involving an MTA bus in the Bronx on Monday.
FDNY officials say the crash happened just before 2 p.m. at 665 E. 163 St. between Cauldwell Avenue and Trinity Avenue.
Two vehicles were struck by the out-of-control bus in front of a school on East 163rd Street and Caldwell Avenue: a grey sedan that was shoved into a light pole and another parked car that was hit on its side.

A few blocks down the road, an SUV was pushed up onto the sidewalk. Meanwhile, the back of a blue coupe was obliterated.

"I saw a bunch of ambulance cops and stuff and like and I just saw the back of the car gone," said a witness named Isiah Ross. "Completely gone. Good thing he didn't have nobody in the back seat of his car because he would've got hurt."
At least four vehicles were struck over a five-block stretch.
Officials say the driver of the bus and seven passengers were injured, and all were taken to Lincoln Medical.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but the MTA is looking at factors such as mechanical failure, weather or a driver's medical condition.
According to police sources, the driver was going up a hill, hit the gas to accelerate, and the bus had a mechanical failure. They say the driver may have pressed the emergency brake and slid out of control, hitting the vehicles.
