NJ Transit lowers World Cup round-trip train ticket prices for the second time
NEW JERSEY (WABC) -- New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill announced on Facebook that the price of a New Jersey Transit ticket to the World Cup will go down again, this time from $105 per round-trip ticket to $98, ahead of tickets going on sale Wednesday, May 13.
She added that the price has dropped "without New Jersey taxpayer money," thanking partners such as DoorDash, Audible, FanDuel, DraftKings, PSE&G, South Jersey Industries and American Water for helping to allow for the price decrease.
"FIFA should contribute to transport its fans to World Cup games," Sherrill's team said in a statement following last week's first price reduction from the originally announced $150 to $105. "Since it hasn't, she directed NJ Transit to seek private and non-taxpayer dollars to significantly reduce the fare."
On a typical day, the 18-mile round trip from New York City's Penn Station to MetLife Stadium costs less than $13. During the eight scheduled World Cup matches, that price will now be $98.
Tickets go on sale Wednesday, May 13 and must be booked in advance.
