Security camera footage shows the moments shots were fired

NEWARK, New Jersey (WABC) -- New Jersey officials are continuing their search for the suspect or suspects responsible for a deadly shooting in Newark that killed a young boy and woman on Saturday night.
The shooting happened on Chancellor Avenue and Leslie Street in Newark around 7 p.m. Saturday.
Two young brothers, 10 and 11, were walking home from a recreation center Saturday night when the shooting began, their youth football coach told Eyewitness News.
The younger brother did not survive the onslaught of violence that erupted. His brother was wounded in the crossfire but survived.
A 21-year old woman was also killed, and two men, 19 and 60, were injured and are recovering in the hospital.
The victims were identified Monday morning as 10-year-old Jordan Garcia and 21-year-old Kiyah Mae Scott.
Scott's mother, Annette Ryan, spoke out about her loss on Monday and said her daughter leaves behind a son who is asking for his mom.
"I don't even know right now what to do, I'm just making funeral arrangements, we're trying to figure out how we're going to come together for her son, he loves his mom," Ryan said.
There are cameras in the area and detectives are reviewing the footage to determine more about who is behind the shooting.
"The individuals involved know what they did, they know how senseless it was and how aggressive it was and they're going to be treated in the same manner, that's how we're coming for you, in a very aggressive and very direct manner," said Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens.
Garcia's football coach says his family is struggling.
"And his mom, I just feel so sad for her, she works really hard for the boys," the coach said.
The mayor spent time at the hospital with the families of the victims. Authorities are expressing their heartfelt sorrow but say all of their attention is on catching the culprits.
"These perpetrators need to turn themselves in immediately, before the sun goes down tonight would be preferable," said Newark Mayor Ras Baraka.
Stephens said the shooting goes "against the trend of downward crime" in the county and the city of Newark, which makes the incident more "vexing" and "difficult." Stephens said there has been more than a 50% decrease in homicides in Newark this year compared to 2021.
There were 49 murders in 2022 year-to-date, with the number dropping to 46 in 2023, 37 in 2024 and 21 so far this year, according to data from the Newark Department of Public Safety.
A motive for the shooting and whether there were multiple suspects involved was not revealed on Monday.
The Essex County Sheriff's Department is offering a $10,000 reward for information in this case.
Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Tips Line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC or 1-877-847-7432. All calls will remain confidential.
