MORRISTOWN, NJ (WABC) -- A New Jersey man was convicted of fatally stabbing his ex-wife 84 times and covering her face with a pig mask.
Jurors in Morris County found 66-year-old Anthony Novellino guilty of murder today. He faces up to 30 years in prison for the crime. The jury also found him guilty of Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Hindering Own Apprehension and Tampering with Physical Evidence.
The jury returned its verdict after only three hours of deliberations.
Prosecutors say Novellino attacked his ex-wife, Judith, at their home in June of 2010. It was 11 days after their divorce was final. Judith Novellino was packing to leave their home.
After stabbing his ex-wide to death, Mr. Novellino retrieved a pig mask from a hall closet and placed it over her face. He then washed the blood off of the knife and hid it underneath a staircase in the home. Novellino also discarded the bloody shoes he was wearing in a trash bag he threw out when he fled the scene.
The couple's adult daughter found her mother's body at the scene of the crime.
Anthony Novellino was captured several days after the killing in Washington state. His sentencing is scheduled for September 12th.
