Ski resorts thriving in wintry weather in NJ

VERNON, New Jersey (WABC) -- Not everyone loves snow, but skiers and winter sport enthusiasts do.

Thanks to the recent stretch of freezing temperatures and steady snowfall, ski resorts across the Northeast are thriving.

At Mountain Creek in Vernon, conditions are the best they've been in years, according to the resort.

Mountain Creed says business is booming and they have already eclipsed last year's visitor total and are looking forward to big crowds during the combination of Valentine's and Presidents Day weekend.

The ski lodges and hills have gone through some tough sledding in the region the past few years with unusually warm weather putting a damper on snow activities, but this year represents a rebound.

Visitors can hit the slopes for skiing and snowboarding or try snow tubing, which the resort says is a favorite for families.

The fresh snow does more than boost morale, it also saves resorts money. Snowmaking is pricey, costing resorts hundreds of thousands of dollars a season, if not more during particularly warm seasons.
