NYC Nurses Strike: Union resumes negotiations with hospitals after break due to storm
NEW YORK (WABC) -- The New York State Nurses Association resumed their negotiations with all three hospital systems on Tuesday, according to officials.
The two-and-a-half-week-old strike had some signs of progress when the union reached a deal on maintaining health benefits at two hospitals - this was a key sticking point.
Nurses union says Mount Sinai and New York Presbyterian have agreed to keep the nurses' current health plan.
Still, the hospitals and nurses must reach final tentative contract agreements.
Due to the winter storm, nurses were not on the picket lines on Sunday or Monday, but were back out there Tuesday since there is no final deal.
NewYork-Presbyterian released a statement on Tuesday after breaking for the night saying, ""The NewYork-Presbyterian bargaining team was on site at the Javits Center today, working through the mediator to exchange proposals on non-economic matters. We made incremental progress and reached one tentative agreement. We are scheduled to bargain again tomorrow, January 28."
They previously said on Sunday that "Through the mediator, NYSNA and hospital leadership have agreed on a process wherein the Trustees of the Health Benefits Plan will form a committee to work on potential savings and programs in our nurses' healthcare plan."
Montefiore says health care benefits were never on their bargain table.
