NYPD detective struck by friendly fire in Queens released from hospital
WHITESTONE, Queens -- An honor guard of fellow officers greeted a wounded NYPD detective Monday as he left the hospital following an instance of friendly fire in Queens last week.
Narcotics Det. Cory Fisher was wounded by friendly fire on Friday as officers rushed to confront an alleged carjacker.
Police said the suspect, Kevin Dubuisson, 28, is a violent repeat offender who was on parole at the time of the carjacking.
Fisher was part of a team of undercover narcotics detectives who happened to be driving by the carjacking.
During the confrontation, three patrol officers assigned to the 109th Precinct opened fire, striking Fisher twice in the hand and leg.
"We'll get the trajectory of who fired what round, but what it appears here was a friendly fire incident," said NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny. "The narcotics detectives were in the front of the car, the 109 patrol was in the rear."
Dubuisson is facing charges that, if convicted, could put him behind bars for over 30 years.
