Police officer struck by driver during traffic stop in Brooklyn

Officer hit during traffic stop in Gravesend, Brooklyn; driver sped away

BROOKLYN, New York (WABC) -- A police officer was injured during a traffic stop in the Gravesend section of Brooklyn.

Officers pulled over a vehicle at West 8th Street and Quentin road just before 4:40 a.m. on Tuesday.

After the officers exited their police cruiser, the driver of the vehicle suddenly reversed and struck the officer, according to officials.

The driver fled westbound in the grey Mercedes on Quentin Road.

The officer sustained a minor leg injury and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
