CASTLE HILL, Bronx (WABC) -- It's been two months since toddler River Wilson died in a swimming pool at her daycare in the Bronx.
A cause of death has still not been released.
River's parents are still dealing with their loss but are also desperate for answers and accountability for what happened back in August.
"Why were five people or four people in the house and little River leave the house and went drowning. What really happened? What were they doing? Who was supervising my daughter? Who was supposed to watch her?" said River's father Ifiok Wilson.
These are the questions that eat at the Wilsons every day since their one-year-old River was found floating in their neighborhood daycare's backyard pool.
They are haunted by the daycare owner's promise.
"It was seemingly comforting the way that they approached it-like it was impossible for her to get back there. Yet here we are today. Here we are today. My sweet girl," her mother Ima Wilson said.
Wednesday marks two months since the parents dropped their girl at Ana's Butterfly Garden daycare on Story Avenue in the Bronx only to never see her alive again.
Since that day, there have been no arrests.
"We have no idea where they are - if they're even still in America," Ima Wilson said.
They have no clarity on what happened in River's final moments.
"If she eventually left the building. She's a baby she cannot do that. She cannot even open the doorknob to go outside. So how come we don't know what really happened until now? We keep asking the same question. What is going on?" Ifiok Wilson said.
Their agony worsens with each day, but the process can't move forward without the medical examiner's investigation.
The medical examiner's office said, "The cause and manner of death are pending further study."
"You have to make sure that it's not any other cause before you can diagnose it as a drowning," medical toxicologist Dr. Stephanie Widmer said.
Dr. Stephanie Widmer says pediatric autopsies, especially drownings, often require more precision and time. There is a lot hinging upon these findings.
"Because of the impending legal case it's going to be a really, really thorough autopsy because it's going to be used as evidence in court," Dr. Widmer said.
"I will not wish on my worst enemy to experience what I've experienced over the last two months," Ifiok Wilson said.
The Bronx District Attorney's Office says the case is still under investigation.
The daycare owner has remained silent since the tragedy.
