Long Islanders packed the pews over the weekend to hear Bishop John Barres, who has been incorporating the Knicks recent playoff successes into his homilies.
"(Pope Leo XIV) - he is a 1977 graduate of Villanova University, and I'm sure he is really rooting for the Villanova-driven Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart and Mikal Bridges," he said.

The former Princeton junior varsity point guard says his time on the court in the 1970s prepared him to lead the Diocese of Rockville Centre.
He says there might be some divine intervention when it comes to Captain Clutch's No. 11.
"I just think he's about the best point guard I've ever seen," said the bishop.
While some are praying, others are paying it forward. Signarama is printing signs and cut outs around the clock, and all donations are going toward Huntington's Helping Hands Rescue Mission to feed the hungry.
Fans have been flocking to the store to get their hands on "fathead" signs and a slew of blue and orange signs.
"You got to do unto others as you want others to do on to you. And we like to give out and help," said owner Mike Ziccardi.
A watch parties are being held across Long Island, including one in Hecksher Park.
