Peekskill police officer placed on administrative leave after 'troubling' video of arrest

PEEKSKILL, New York (WABC) -- A police officer in Westchester County has been placed on administrative leave after a video appears to show possible excessive force being used during an arrest.

The incident happened near a gazebo in Riverfront Green Park in Peekskill on Wednesday afternoon.

Officials say they recognize that the video has raised significant concern in the community, and that they want the public to know they are taking this matter seriously.

"The video is troubling and raises serious questions about what transpired - specifically regarding the officer's conduct and use of force," the City of Peekskill said in a statement. "This incident is under active investigation to determine all relevant facts and circumstances."

Authorities say evidence connected to the incident has been forward to the Westchester County District Attorney's Office for an independent investigation. The matter is also being reviewed by the City of Peekskill's Civilian Complaint Review Board.

Anyone with information about the incident, including video or witness accounts, is asked to contact Peekskill Lt. Adam Renwick at 914-862-1406 or by email at arenwick@peekskillpolice.com.
