NEW VIDEO: Suspect in barbershop shooting caught on camera

MORRISANIA, N.Y. (WABC) -- A man is stable after being shot in a barber shop in the Morrisania section of the Bronx Friday afternoon.

Around 4:20 p.m. Friday at the Los Latinos Barber Shop at the 600 block of East 169th Street, a suspect brandished a firearm, shot a 24-year-old male, one time in the torso. The suspect fled toward East 168th Street and was taken to Saint Barnabas Hospital where he is stable.

Dozens of customers were packed into the shop at the time. During the string of gunfire, the barber shop owner, Jose Lopez, told Eyewitness News in Spanish, that everyone panicked and hit the floor.

Moments later, they realized a customer was shot in the stomach. Lopez said the shooting was outside and had nothing to do with the barbers or their clients.

The same story repeats itself in this neighborhood: innocent people becoming the victims of violent crimes, he said.

It is unclear what led to the shooting.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man, about 5 feet 8 inches tall with long black hair in a ponytail. He was last seen wearing a black ski cap, black work boots, black shirt, black fur trimmed jacket and black jeans.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
