Group of 18 puppies found abandoned in New Jersey

RAHWAY, New Jersey (WABC) -- Police in New Jersey are looking for whoever is responsible after more than a dozen puppies were discovered roaming in a neighborhood in Rahway.

The puppies were discovered on Saturday around Jefferson Avenue. The mixed breed puppies are believed to be approximately 4 months old.

A group of concerned residents, including David Stillman, safely gathered the 18 puppies and placed them in a nearby residence before animal control arrived.

Witnesses reported seeing a gray SUV in the area shortly before the puppies were found. Officials believe the puppies may have been abandoned.

After Stillman helped rescue the dogs, he is now advocating for them and trying to make sure their lives will be better than how they started.

Common Sense for Animals is the shelter that is caring for the dogs and preparing them for adoption.

The puppies are friendly and sweet but not socialized, the shelter said. They are currently looking for fosters to help care for the puppies.

The incident remains under investigation.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Rahway Police Department at 732-388-1900. Anonymous tips are welcome.
