NEW YORK (WABC) -- One of New York City's iconic restaurants, the Rainbow Room, is ready once again to welcome visitors.

It reopened to the public Sunday, starting with brunch.

The landmark space, 65 stories atop Rockefeller Plaza, has been closed for five years for renovation.

The Rainbow Room will be open Sundays for brunch and Monday evenings, and most holidays for dinner.

It will serve as an event space the rest of the time.

Two years ago, the city granted landmark status to the venue, which has hosted plenty of celebrities over its 80 years.

The room with a rotating dance floor counts numerous movie stars, sports figures and political dignitaries among its customers.

Those have included Cole Porter, Elizabeth Taylor, Al Pacino, Barbra Streisand and Muhammad Ali, along with every mayor since its original opening.

Performers have included music greats Tommy Dorsey, Guy Lombardo, Louis Armstrong and Tony Bennett. A jazz band played Sunday.
