RED HOOK, Brooklyn (WABC) -- Some residents in Brooklyn can soon wave goodbye to a long, hot summer with the reopening of a neighborhood outdoor pool.
The Red Hook Pool on Bay Street reopened Sunday at 11 a.m. after a months-long shutdown for repairs.
Just days before it was scheduled to open, the New York City Parks Department discovered a broken drain pipe in the century-old pool. Since then, crews worked to make necessary, extensive repairs to ready the pool for swimmers.
Most New York City outdoor pools officially opened for the summer season on June 27.

According to NYC Parks, the department is currently in the design phase of a $122 million project to renovate the Red Hook Pool and Recreation Center. The project includes rebuilding the entire pool basin and its supporting components, with construction expected to begin in 2028.
New York City outdoor pools will remain open through Sunday, September 7.
