
NEW JERSEY (WABC) -- Cleanup continues across the Tri-State after powerful storms packed strong wind gusts, knocked down trees and wires -- crushing cars and leaving many roads impassable.
There are numerous reports of trees falling, and at one point in New Jersey on Tuesday morning, there were nearly 38,000 power outages reported.

The weather also impacted rail service. Downed trees in overhead wires led to a ripple effect of 20-minute delays for NJ Transit commuters in and out of Penn Station New York. PATH at Newark, Hoboken, and 33rd Street, New York is cross-honoring NJ Transit tickets and passes amid ongoing delays.
Over in Metuchen, New Jersey, trees and live wires fell down overnight.
On Grove Avenue, live wires sparked and smoked from where they lay on the ground. The local fire department arrived swiftly to assess the problem.

One tree fell and crushed the windshield of a car parked in the Pelham Bay section of the Bronx. Its branches also hit a car parked across the street.

In Jackson Heights, Queens, a tree fell and a branch pierced a car windshield and smashed part of a fence.

In Whitestone, Queens, a huge tree fell onto a home while a homeowner was sleeping inside. No one was injured and the homeowner said that he can stay in the home while the tree is removed.

On Monday, hundreds of flights at regional airports were either cancelled or delayed as severe weather swept across the Tri-State area.
