There is optimism in New York that Knicks forward OG Anunoby will return from his hamstring injury by the start of the Eastern Conference Finals, sources tell ESPN's Shams Charania.

Anunoby exited Game 2 of the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Philadelphia 76ers in the final minutes, reaching for his right hamstring. He's been day-to-day since, missing the last two games of the Knicks' sweep over the 76ers.

Barring a setback, Anunoby is expected to return for the start of the series, sources said.

Anunoby went through portions of Knicks practice Wednesday, but did not go through anything live, according to Knicks coach Mike Brown. He was seen shooting following the session, with Brown adding that Anunoby also went through an individual workout.

"Any time anybody is able to do stuff, you're encouraged," Brown said. "But again, that's what they told me he could do today. I'll wait until Friday to see what they tell me."

The Eastern Conference Finals could begin as early as Sunday, which would afford Anunoby 11 days to recover from the injury.

Anunoby, New York's second-leading scorer this postseason behind Jalen Brunson, is averaging 21.4 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.9 steals on 62% shooting (53% from 3-point range) in eight playoff games.br/]
