Tracking Tropical Storm Imelda and Hurricane Humberto
Forecasters said Imelda was on track to become a hurricane by late Monday or Tuesday.
NEW YORK (WABC) -- Tropical Storm Imelda continues to push through the northern Bahamas, bringing heavy rain and gusty winds to many of the islands.
The storm is expected to become a hurricane and turn eastward later Tuesday or Tuesday night.
While a United States landfall is no longer anticipated, the storm is expected to track close enough to the Southeast Coast to bring some rain and wind, especially near the coast.
There can also be dangerous surf and storm surge along the Southeast coast this week. The storm will then bring strong winds and heavy rain to Bermuda later this week as it races east.
Hurricane Humberto
Humberto remains a Category 4 major hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Humberto is expected to turn more to the north early in the week and approach Bermuda before taking a shift more to the northeast, passing between Bermuda and the East Coast of the United States.
Heavy rain and gusty winds will impact Bermuda late Monday night into Wednesday.
As Humberto moves near Bermuda, the wind field will expand and could bring more substantial impacts to the islands. Interests in Bermuda should monitor the progress of this storm as slight changes in the track could result in additional rain and wind impacts.
Regardless of the exact track of these storms, rough surf and rip currents are expected for the Bahamas through the East Coast of the United States this week.
