New X-men movie delights

NEW YORK (WABC) -- The official start of summer is still a month away but one of the biggest blockbusters of the season arrives in movie theaters everywhere tomorrow. "X-men: Days of Future Past"

Our city is a very dark place in the not too distant future-and "The X-men" are facing extinction so their leader Professor Charles Xavier unites with an old rival and sends Wolverine back in time to try and alter the course of history.

Remember Hugh Jackman's character can regenerate - so he looks the same a half century earlier but once there he meets younger versions of the others. Ian Mckellan's Magneto is played by Michael Fassbender, Patrick Stewart's professor by James McAvoy.

The epic's most moving moment occurs when the professor confronts his younger self and such human touches abound in a movie-that still has enough action to satisfy the fan boys and girls while still engaging our hearts and minds.

Credit an outstanding cast - with so much depth it features one of the biggest stars in the world right now Jennifer Lawrence in her familiar supporting role of Mystique or Raven- if you prefer.

When it comes to trying to stop her - none of them hold back.

Add sly humor-and set the picture in the fashion-challenged 1970's and what you get is a popcorn picture that's less like a snack and more like a delicious meal.

The picture isn't perfect. Halle Berry has a role so small that if you blink, you will miss her as Storm and that's just not fair, but overall this tale of the mutants putting their differences aside to fight a common enemy is a winner.
