WHITE PLAINS (WABC) -- Police are looking for the suspects who attacked a man as he was leaving a New Year's Eve party at a restaurant in White Plains.

Authorities say the 39-year old victim had attended a party hosted by the Royal Palace restaurant on Knollwood Road.

Shortly after leaving at about 1:10 a.m., he was assaulted by two men who hit him with a blunt instrument, possibly an ice sculpture, according to police.

The man was struck numerous times and suffered head trauma. He is in serious but stable condition at Westchester Medical Center.

The victim was unable to provide a description of his attackers. But police now have surveillance video showing a person who is a potential witness, or perhaps even a suspect.

The owner of the restaurant says there were no signs of trouble among the groups of families that had booked the banquet room.

"They're known to each other, most of them seem like they know other couples. They all seemed to be getting along, having a great time," said restaurant owner Monica Mitter.

Police don't believe robbery was a motive because the victim's wallet and cell phone were not taken. Investigators think more than one suspect attacked the Connecticut resident.

After weeding through hours of surveillance video, police narrowed their focus to one man because he was seen leaving the same time the victim walked out.

"We're seeking help from people who attended this party who may have overheard an argument of some sort if that was the case, or something that may have precipitated this event, that may have started inside the restaurant," said Greenburgh Police Lt. Brian Ryan.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or has information, is urged to contact Greenburgh Police Detectives at (914) 682-5325.
