Now surrounded by city life, the home remains an unexpected reminder of Manhattan's rural roots and Revolutionary War history.
"He was our hero, and now to see this, it's just devastating," John Quiñones told Eyewitness News, sharing his insight as a former farmworker himself who looked up to Chavez.
"I can no longer stay silent and must share my own experiences," Huerta said.
Chavez founded the United Farm Workers of America and dedicated his life to improving the rights of farm workers until his death in 1993.
After more than two centuries in print, the Farmers' Almanac will end its run with its 2026 edition.
