RAMSEY, New Jersey (WABC) -- A police chase that ended in a motorcycle crash caused massive delays on Route 17 in Ramsey Friday evening.

The pursuit began up in Mahwah after police spotted the motorcycle speeding on Route 202. When officers tried to pull the motorcycle over, he sped off on Route 17, at times traveling in excess of 100 miles per hour.

Ramsey police took over before the driver crashed near the Maple Shade Motel, where there was also a car with back-end damage that seemed to indicate it was rear-ended by the motorcycle.

The suspect was said to be alive as he was taken by ambulance to the hospital. He reportedly suffered broken bones and possibly lost a limb.

He has not been identified, and there is no word on where he was coming from or headed.

The highway was temporarily closed but has since reopened, though lanes were subject to closure for the investigation.
