Police: LI teen crashes, kills mother

Police say a teenage driver has collided with a motorcycle on Long Island, killing his mother and critically injuring two people on the motorcycle. The crash happened just after 8:30 p.m. Thursday in Hempstead.

Nassau County police say 17-year-old Oscar Garcia was driving a Toyota with his mother, Maria Garcia, in the passenger seat.

Police say a motorcycle hit the Toyota as the teen was making a left turn.

The motorcycle driver, Anthony Daniel, and his passenger, Cassia Dixon, were thrown from the motorcycle. They are being treated for critical injuries.

Maria Garcia was pronounced dead at Nassau University Medical Center.

Oscar Garcia has been charged with reckless driving and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
