Brooklyn bandits target area businesses

BROOKLYN They've robbed at least a half-dozen businesses in the last month, each time fleeing the scene in a Black Ford Expedition.

In each case, two of the suspects enter the business while the third one remains in the SUV.

The robbers hit the Sarubia Grocery at 1266 East 37th twice, on April 6 and April 22. They didn't get any money in the first case, but they did the second time around. A customer was also injured during that robbery.

A week later, the suspects struck again at a grocery store at 6106 3rd Avenue. A 38-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder during this robbery.

The bandits have struck three more times since then. The most recent was this past Saturday, May 9, but this time they got more than they bargained for and the entire incident was captured on surveillance video.

The two men entered Blondies Deli at 607 Greenwood Avenue shortly before 7:00 p.m. One of the bandits jumps on the counter and tries to get money out of the register. Before he can, the store owner and another employee chase the two suspects out of the store.

One of the men manages to grab hold of one suspect, but he eventually breaks free.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477). You can also text tips to CRIMES (274637), then enter TIP577.
