Fire forces residents out into the cold

A third-alarm fire tore through a townhouse complex in Vernon, New Jersey, leaving residents of eight condos homeless. Eyewitness News is told the blaze broke out in a laundry room at the Falkenstein Drive complex just before 11 p.m. Monday and quickly spread.

Eight apartments were gutted by the flames.

Officials say residents were evacuated into the cold and taken to a local hotel.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
