Unions ask state AG to probe fraud at NYC Opera

NEW YORK

In a letter dated Monday, the unions accused City Opera of providing false information to the court when it sought to invade its endowment and of various breaches by the opera's Board of its fiduciary duties. The unions also seek an injunction to keep City Opera at Lincoln Center.

Opera spokeswoman Maggie McKeon called the accusation "ridiculous." She said they are "committed to presenting artistically exciting productions in a financially responsible way."

Opera officials have announced a new program - a season of only three or four operas at venues around the city. The company said last month that it was leaving its Lincoln Center home.
