Sandy Kenyon reviews 'Aloha,' 'San Andreas'
Sandy Kenyon has your weekend movie reviews!

NEW YORK (WABC) -- This weekend's new movies are heading west, first to California with an action-packed look at the mother of all earthquakes, and then a little further, to Hawaii, where three Hollywood's A-listers are teaming up in a new romantic comedy.

And if there was an award for the most talent wasted in a single movie, then "Aloha" would surely get the prize. Two of the biggest stars in the world get together in the film, set in Hawaii, and the result is so bad that even executives at the studio releasing it have trashed the picture.

Bradley Cooper and Emma Stone headline "Aloha," which arrives with a thud in theaters, leaving critics and moviegoers alike wondering what went wrong?

Rachel Mcadams plays Cooper's ex, left behind by his character, who was a covert operative but now works as a private contractor for a billionaire, played by Bill Murray.

They hope to launch a satellite into space from Hawaii, and the U.S. Air Force has assigned a fighter pilot to keep an eye on the project.

It's fun watching the stars, but nowhere near enough fun to recommend seeing the movie.

Also opening this week is "San Andreas," named after the fault line that runs under California.

It's been awhile since an earthquake was the center of a disaster movie, and it is evident how computer generated imagery has improved.

The plot, involving former wrestler Dwayne Johnson, once known as The Rock, is beside the point.

By the time a tsunami wrecks the city by the bay, the picture becomes so preposterous as to be laughable.

Johnson's acting is not why "San Andreas" will make so much money, but the disaster movie surprisingly entertaining, in part because the serious scenes are so laughable.
