JAMAICA, Queens (WABC) -- A power outage at a section of JFK Airport in Queens is causing some delays and terminal inconveniences Tuesday afternoon.

The outage at Terminal 8 has caused escalators and elevators to stop working, and had affected baggage screening earlier, but that is now back online.

American Airlines said this is not a complete power outage, and they are allowing customers to change travel plans without a fee through August 17th by visiting its travel alert website: aa.com/travelalerts

The outage first happened at 1:50 p.m. Power was coming back on, but then there was a surge and power was lost again.

Flights are delayed right now because of the weather, not the partial outage, according to AA.

As of 5 p.m., there were delays of 2 hours at JFK and Newark Airports, and 2 hours 15 minutes at LaGuardia.

Terminal 8 is the same section of the airport that was put on lockdown Sunday night after reports of gunshots inside the terminal. Police sources later said the noise was later traced to celebratory applause for the Olympics.

American Airlines owns the terminal, but other airlines utilize it as well.
