MOUNT HOPE, Bronx (WABC) -- A man and woman were fatally shot in the Mount Hope section of the Bronx early Monday.

The victims were shot while they were standing outside with friends on East 175th Street and Weeks Avenue just before 5:30 a.m.

33-year-old Beramy Garcia was shot in the head, back and wrist and was pronounced dead at the scene.

37-year-old Yajahira Duverge, a mother of four was shot in the torso and was pronounced dead at St Barnabas Hospital.

Family members tell Eyewitness News that Garcia and Duverge were standing on the street with friends early in the morning following the Dominican Day Parade on Sunday.

The circumstances that led to the shooting are not yet clear.

Police spoke with the young mother's husband, but say he is not a suspect, but did tell authorities he recognized the gunman.

"We have the young lady's husband is in the precinct, we showed him the video and he says he knows the individual from the neighborhood. We think the investigation is going well. We will find out what happened," said NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce.

Police say a weapon was recovered at the scene.

Crime scene investigators have the street closed off. Family members say Duverge had four children.
