INDIANAPOLIS -- The Colts have released linebacker Jonathan Newsome following his arrest for possession of marijuana less than a week ago. Newsome used Twitter to thank the Colts organization following his release.

Newsome was arrested early on the morning of Feb. 17 when someone called the police with a loud music complaint coming from the linebacker's Zionsville (Indiana) apartment. Newsome was taken into custody on two counts of possession of marijuana after he was observed with the drug.

That was the second time in less than three weeks that police were called to Newsome's home for a loud music complaint. They were called early in the morning on Jan. 31 when they also found marijuana in the residence. A friend of Newsome's was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana that morning.

While at Ball State, Newsome was suspended for two games following an August 2012 possession arrest when a bag containing marijuana was found in his wallet. Newsome, the Colts' fifth-round draft pick in 2014, tied for the team lead in sacks that season with 6.5. He had only one sack this past season.

The Colts also announced Monday that they've released linebacker Andy Studebaker.
