Meanwhile, around 3 a.m. in Jamaica, Queens, another 28-year-old, this time, an off-duty correction officer, was killed when he was shot in the head and chest. Police sources say the murder of Officer John Jeff was a planned hit after he left a party with a fellow female correction officer.

After Officer Jeff left the party, three cars boxed him in. The suspect got out of the first car, and shot Jeff while he and the woman were in he car. Sources say the suspect then grabbed Jeff's department-issued firearm and used it to shoot him several times, and took off with the gun.

Jeff had only been a correction officer for two years at Rikers Island.

Angeline Simeon knew him.

"He was calm, collected, you know, he minded his business," said Simeon.

At Grand Central Terminal, a 40-year-old man tapped on a victim's shoulder and then shot him while waiting on the platform for a southbound 4 train around 10 a.m.

The victim is in stable condition as investigators try to figure out if the attack was random or targeted.

In the past 24 hours, there have been 20 shootings throughout the city, with 23 victims. Three of those victims have died.
