MIDWOOD, Brooklyn (WABC) -- A 10-year-old boy was killed when a driver suffered an apparent seizure and struck him in Brooklyn Tuesday.

The accident happened in front of a bus stop outside a seven-story residential building in the 1,600 block of Ocean Avenue in Midwood around 3:00 p.m.

The 59-year-old driver of a Lexus SUV lost control, jumped the sidewalk at Avenue L and struck Enzo Farachio, who was walking on the sidewalk.

The vehicle then slammed into scaffolding in front of the building.

Farachio was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. The driver and his 9-year-old daughter were transported to Kings County Hospital but were not seriously injured.

"Everybody's looking, everybody's scared," area worker Mohammed Hamoud said. "You know this is very bad. You send your kids to the school, they don't come back."

The Brooklyn District Attorney's Office said it has been told the crash "was a potential medical situation" and will thoroughly investigate.

The state DMV said the driver had a valid license and no prior violations, suspensions or revocations.

Police have not yet determined whether the driver will face any criminal charges.

Ocean Avenue was closed to vehicular traffic between Avenue M and Avenue K after the accident.
